AHIP Materials on Health Care Reform

Given the increased attention on health care issues, below are several resources from AHIP that may be useful when considering health plan community’s perspective during this debate.  To learn more about AHIP’s proposals to improve the accessibility, quality, and affordability of health care, visit www.AmericanHealthSolution.org

AHIP’s Comprehensive Health Care Reform Proposal
The Campaign for an American Solution is working hard to build support for a new comprehensive health care reform proposal.  The new proposal was put together after the Campaign's nationwide listening tour in which Americans from all walks of life shared their personal health care stories and ideas and suggestions on how to reform the health care system.

The American people clearly outlined the concerns they have with the current health care system: the rising cost of medical care, affordability for working families and small businesses, coverage for pre-existing conditions and portability for those changing jobs.  The Campaign was able to take these perspectives back to Washington and use the information to inform the policy discussions which led to the development of the reform proposal.

AHIP's Affordability Proposal
The U.S. could reduce total health care spending and improve the quality of patient care if the plan proposed today by America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) was implemented.  PricewaterhouseCoopers reviewed AHIP’s proposals and estimates and concluded that if these proposals are fully implemented, the nation’s total health care expenditures could be $145 billion lower than currently projected by the year 2015.
